Tom's Thumb Trail – McDowell Mountain Preserve
Meet at the Tennis Courts at 7:30 AM and we will carpool to the trailhead
We are hiking up the steep, switchbacks of Tom's Thumb Trail to the intersection of the Lookout Trail and return. We may go another .1 mile for a nice view of the valley.
Hikers are treated to gorgeous views of the southern McDowell Mountains and urban Phoenix. There is no water at the trailhead so bring plenty of liquid to stay hydrated. It will take us approximately an hour to get to the trailhead but well worth the drive.
RATING: Strenuous due to elevation gain
DISTANCE: Approximately 5 miles round trip
ELEVATION GAIN: Approximately 1300 feet
DURATION: 2.5 - 3 hours
TRAIL STYLE: Out and back
FACILITIES: Bathrooms but NO WATER at the trailhead
Lunch to follow if there is interest.
