Join us for the first Off-road Club Outing - Harquahala Mountain Summit

The beauty of the desert with the view of the surrounding desert from the summit makes this a great off-road trip. At the top of the mountain you can learn about the history of the observatory and the life of the scientists that worked there. BLM is offering you a chance to feel like you are on top of the world, a must see. It offers small SUV's the chance to try out their 4wd capabilities. As you ascend the mountain the terrain will turn from beautiful desert scenery to the rocky mountainside. The view at the top makes this trail worth taking. Don't forget to sign the guest log at the observatory on the summit. If you look near the windsock you will find a marker embedded in a rock stating that you are at the highest point in SW Arizona. Information is provided about the observatory and the lifestyle along the side of the building that answers many of your questions.

Technical Difficulty: Easy

Dirt and/or rocky road. Potential rocks and/or tree stumps less than 5-8" tall and/or vertical ledges less than 5-9" tall and/or near vertical ledges or waterfalls less than 6-12" inches. Good tire placement likely. Can be steep, but with good traction.

Hard roll out: 7:15am
Arrive at Air-down location: 8:30am
Drivers meeting: 8:50am
Hit trailhead: 9:00am
